Ship Reviews

Silver Nova (the vessel itself) is a spectacular example of art, engineering and deign. Just stunning. In spite of a sold out cruise, it never felt crowded -- the spaces are ample, you never had to queue. The different lounges and restaurants are interesting and exciting. The room was perfect in every way. Thoughtfully laid out bathroom with space for everything. Ditto the closet space. Our butler was AMAZING. The cabin attendant did a great job as the room was always spotless. Which leads me to the real story -- the service at the restaurants. We were a group of eight -- six of which were first time on Silversea (who came with us based on our previous Silver Nova experience). Larger tables really stress the system and a full ship makes it difficult, but still -- cocktails took 20 minutes to arrive. On the second night it took over an hour for dinner to arrive. The kind waiter apologized, and we heard others complaining on our way out. The story doesn't end there -- so the next day I requested a meeting with the Food and Beverage officer, Stefano. I didn't complain -- we didn't want to be "that" group. Instead, I reported the exact facts on the service. I coached him and in a very positive way explained to how deeply we wanted them to be excellent -- we knew how good they could be as this was our third time on Nova/Ray. We asked him to use these facts and story as a learning experience with his team - have them solve how is possible a table waits an hour between ordering and food. I was at pains to say we didn't want anything for free, we wanted them to be excellent!! From that day forward - the mood shifted to positive, upbeat very very good service. And this wasn't just for us -- it was for the entire ship ... something happened and you could feel everywhere. Tatiana (restaurants manager) and Gytis (Maitre'd) checked in on us every night-- but not just us - every table. The leadership lifted their game -- and you could feel the difference everywhere. The mood of the ship and the crew became joyous. I am most impressed the way the leadership of ship listened and responded. The people dimension is so important -- and you can tell the leadership cares -- ALOT. The Captain was very, very visible and spent time with every guest. The hotel director was always around and made a point of greeting everyone. Finally, Amy, the cruise director is non-stop funny, engaging and witty. There is a lot to be said about the leadership team on the ship. They are doing a great job and it makes the experience for the people just amazing. I might also add, it probably was our best New Years Eve -- maybe ever. Thank you Silversea. I am so grateful to Silver Nova and proud of the team. Thank you for making our experience a wonderful memory with great friends.

Both myself and my wife really enjoyed our first voyage on Silver Nova . We stayed in a Medallion Suite which we found modern , clean and comfortable . We were also happy with our suite location . Staff are great and work very hard to make sure your have a great holiday . I enjoyed the food , especially Alantide and found both the breakfast and lunch buffet to be enjoyable as well . Entertainment was good as was the choice of activities during days at sea . Excursions were good but not the highlight of my trip if I am totally honest . I really enjoyed the convenience of not having to use tenders to get ashore and that was a huge bonus when sailing on a small ship . We actually booked another cruise whilst on board for next May on Silver Nova so that gives you an idea of how much we enjoyed our holiday . For me Silver Nova was a real treat .

Ship was beautiful. staff was over the top great, from the captain down/ . food - only OK.. disappointing especially at dinner. .. Atlantide was medicore at best. They did nothing that I would say "wowed" me. Best meals i had were in SALT and the Japanese restaurants. examples ;(i asked for a pasta to be made in the traditional Italian way, other than the way it was prepared and i was told the chef wouldnt do it.) i also asked for tuna so i can make a sandwich and i was told they didnt make it that day. was troubled by the fact that "excursions" were really not included as advertised. most days we paid for upgraded excursions offered by ship. our trip by helicopter to glacier was cancelled due to weather. if it wasn't our cost for the upgrades would have been close to $3000. one port, Klawock, was a late substitue port. It was so bad i asked for my money back...

First time for us with Silversea. Many reviews and passengers on board hold same opinion - ownership by Royal Caribbean is now impacting on the brand. Overall we had a good experience - there were a few areas needing attention - embarkation wasn’t great, equipment with contractor at Seward not working accurately, reception desk tbh was never very helpful, it felt like training was severely lacking in these areas. However, it has to be said staff throughout the rest of the ship were amazing on every level. Efficient, kind, thoughtful and professional. The cabins and cleanliness - faultless, impeccable. The pre-cruise hotel in Anchorage, The Captain Cook was OK, but at £600 per room was extortionate given the level of hotel. We took the Alaskan Railroad to Seward, be aware this is a charter train which runs from a depot at the airport not the train station. It was beautiful scenery, but on board catering and drinks was chaotic, we never received our food at all and given we’d not eaten since breakfast and didn’t arrive in Seward until 6pm, it was woefully inadequate. The journey took around 4-5 hrs, so embarkation was rushed and inefficient to get the train passengers on board for departure at 7pm. I think I’d say take the bus included by Silversea which virtually follows the train route and gets you out there in good time to settle on board comfortably. The cost was an additional £200 pp for the train and we were left wondering if it was worth it. Passengers were frustrated by the onboard disorganisation. The food was fabulous on the Silver Nova, and the general non premium wine available was good, although we had to be firm about what we wanted to drink in terms of wine, they were keen to encourage you to their selection. The Atlantide walk in was amazing, the range, quality and service was great. La Terrazza was ok, we went once, the grill/marquee had high quality meat but the veg was either stone cold or baked potatoes uncooked in the centre. The on board lectures for Alaska were great and highly informative, the entertainment ‘warmed up’ as the week passed. We enjoyed the excursions but there were rumblings on board that they were of poor or insubstantial quality, we visited a couple of new ports - Haines and Klawock, both were charming but I’d understand the dissatisfaction of seasoned cruise passengers. Dress code - we found this to be very informal, nothing as we’d imagined but it was good for us as we don’t enjoy dressy formality and it was something we’d mildly dreaded getting wrong! Cruise going friends had advised sequins all the way, thankfully the Nova was the opposite. Disembarkation at Vancouver was so well organised by the ship and the port, as slick as it could be. Alaska was memorable and the Silver Nova an extremely comfortable base from which to visit.
