Ship Reviews

This is very large ship and although my preference is the Freedom class ships, this was a great cruise and bottom line, yes, I would recommend and cruise on this ship and RC again. Have had 10 RC cruises and never disappointed. This ship is currently only a year old so it still looks very new...amenities and carpet in the stateroom and even the paint on the ship as we walked the track on deck five. Our basic ocean view balcony was fine, no problems with anything in the room just keep the AC on lowest setting (outside temp was 85). Service was excellent and extremely friendly everywhere. We like to talk to the crew and basically everyone has been with RC for many years (takes 10 years to become a head waiter) and they truly seemed happy with their job. Ship was mostly full but never seemed crowded unless you wanted to be in a party crowd. This ship has a new tech elevator system...there are no button inside the elevators... you push a pad in the "hall" as to what deck you want to go to and it tells you which of the six elevators to go to and it will take you to that deck...we had minimal waits. Embarkation was smooth and we did the self-assisted debarkation and it was the quickest of any cruise. The RC app worked flawlessly months before getting on the ship and no issues on the ship. It offers lots of info and the ability to make reservations (mostly done weeks before so no waiting in lines on the ship). It has your deck plans and the cruise compass which tells you all activities going on when and where and the ability to text to other passengers through the ships WIFI. We don't spend the extra for the specialty dining. Main dining room has always met our expectations and waiter service was great. (Their prime rib not so good) Ice skating show was great, diving aquatic show good but irritatingly LOUD, all in 80's stage show was girls shaking their boobs and gyrating and not the best music...we left early. Yea, we're 65 and RC has done a lot better on past cruises. No kids with us so we enjoyed the quiet solarium area and the solarium breakfast...not crowded. Did a thermal spa package...very relaxing. Coco Cay is what we really look forward to....If adults, spend the little extra and go to Hideaway Beach. Heated infinity pool and NOT crowded. Captain changed up the schedule a bit to avoid a storm that was out there and had sunshine and calm seas as a result. Hot tubs were hat and not crowded.

LOVED The ship! the shows were amazing, loved the aqua theater. we cruise all cruise lines pretty frequently and this was our first oasis class ship with the aqua theater, and I'm not sure we can go back to a RCI without one. All the performers are amazing.... I'm a dance teacher, and i was very impressed! Unfortunately the food was MEH. we had a party of 5 and were craving some chocolate and there are no chocolate chip cookies or brownies in the windjammer. (there was pudding and red velvet cake but not what we wanted) also the food was all okay. nothing that was WOW. the snack truck probably had the best tasting food. We did not pay for fancy dining.... they were all booked up. The main dining room was empty the last night! so i think that is saying something when nobody is going to the dining room to eat. Also the windjammer closes at 9pm. when we had diner at 5pm we got hungry about 10pm and the only choose was pizza. Awesome pizza, especially the carribean pizza! but they could open a late buffet 11pm-midnight. for coco cay our jet ski excursion was cancelled because of tides. so make sure to book early time slot. also we stepped into the ocean ankle deep and we saw a jelly fish... got right back out and went back to the boat. Nassau we have been to many times, didn't even get off the boat. unfortunate there is not much trivia or activities during the day. Bingo is only during the evening so you have to choose between that or a show. so activities could have been scheduled better and more during the day. there was a morning trivia the last day and a Taylor Swift name that tune in the late afternoon. Also the zipline, abyss and carousel are closed till the afternoon. so that limits your options also. Still fun!! but less options during the day. brought my 10 yr old daughter, but she hang with us the whole time. So we are not sure about kids club. all the employees were so happy and helpful. Loved our experience overall.

I loved the experience my family and I enjoyed ourselves but for me I’m disabled and things are not so handicap friendly on the ship and on the islands. I felt left out of allot of things because I couldn’t go because in Nassau the beach is far so you have to get a ride to it and I’m on a motor ride so I can’t go to the beach and that machine can’t go in the sand so no beach for me or being pushed in those wheelchair’s with the big wheels are a hassle because I’m over 300 pounds and it’s a challenge for a man to push you in the sand andI had women with me, so no beach at all for me. Felt out so went back to the ship. On the ship it’s very tight for the riding things can go. In the elevator is a hassle they’ll close on you even when you push the handicap button. Couldn’t go into the bars because of the tightness, no karaoke unless I’m staying sitting in that chair and not into a comfortable chair. And the people look at you like your aliens do to spend as much as we did and to me treated as so I wasn’t very happy but I out a happy face in for the family. I will say the food was good, the drinks were good but too high and good company. The employees are all so very nice and that’s appreciated for me in my condition! I could say more but I’ll save it for the next time!!

Overall this was a great cruise for us and our 10yo - We aren't the dance club type and could have used more trivia or game activties (we'd done Disney which did a lot of these) - but otherwise were pleased! Kids Club has limited hours and the 7pm checkin line would be 30+ Mins Long -- this is something RC could definitely improve in. They also hit capcity all night and had people waiting for someone to checkout in order to get in. Lifeguard Manager Kevin was great at helping diffuse bullying of 3 boys who were hitting our son and he was much appreciated in making them leave the area. Main Dining Staff Imade and Ngurah were the best we've had on a cruise - and we've been cruising yearly for 10+years - caring for our 10yo and us, and recognizing us even in the early hours on the promendade. They remembered our preferences and went above and beyond. Sim who worked the zipline and the Abyss - remembered our kids name in the short amount of time we were there - and the next days.

Wow. If you have never cruised on one of the mega ships, I urge you to try it. I booked this four day out of Canaveral (Orlando, FL)as a birthday present for my husband who turned 70. We are fairly frequent cruisers on various lines. The amenities and activities on this ship were amazing. From the Effectors Parade to the ice skating show, to the wonderful mini golf and surfing pool, the entertainment and activities were top notch and seeing the sheer size of the venues and areas is worth the trip. Our outside balcony was roomier than we expected and had tons of storage. TWO closets! Be aware there are “inside” balconies that overlook various internal areas such as their lovely Central Park, but of course they do not have a view of the ocean and are exposed to the activities and noise that naturally occurs in those areas. So, all of that made for a nice experience. I gave the cruise four stars because I felt the dining experiences we had were not up to what we expect on Royal. The main dining had a nice atmosphere and our servers were very good. The food, however, was meh. We ate there two of the four nights and the first night my fish entree was delicious. My escargot appetizer was cold. Imagine all that gooey cheese and butter not hot and melty! The other night I ordered the Turkey dinner. It was kind of bland and also not really very hot. Now, the specialty restaurants: Chops Grille, the steakhouse, was large and loud - not the quiet clubby atmosphere I expected. There were no tablecloths. The food was fine, and our server was as attentive as he could be given he was given several other tables at the same time. Just not the elevated experience I’ve come to expect. The other special restaurant we chose was Giovanni’s. If you’re hankering for pasta, I just want to say their choices were limited because 50% of the entrees were pizzas. If you want to spend $45 a piece for a meal that is primarily pizza, be my guest. I’ll pass. My entree was billed as linguine con vignoles; I opted for shrimp instead of clams. This dish was the weirdest Italian sauce I’ve ever had. It was so full of cayenne or some kind of hot pepper, my lips were tingling and my nose ran. Now I don’t mind spicy, but I’ve never had that on linguini. So fair warning. Embarkation and disembarkation was probably the smoothest we’ve ever experienced and amazing considering the ship was carrying over 6,000 passengers! All in all, a good experience. Lesson learned - skip the specialty dining package. There are many included dining options and if you do want one of the extra ones, check out the menu and book it a la carte.
