The ship is old, no doubt about it, but this is certainly not a secret when you book it and it is still very well maintained and if you don't go looking specifically for details it doesn't show its age. The cabins in particular, despite the evident signs of the years, especially in the toilets, are comfortable and larger than the average cabin on more modern ships. The best thing I found, however, was the staff, always helpful and smiling. Renzo and Ryan of the schooner bar call me by name after the second day, ditto Michael of the poolside bar on the solarium, a big thank you. Not to mention the waiters at MDR Kunal and Igede and their manager Gabriel, simply exceptional. The food was all really, really good. I can't imagine what anyone complaining about is used to. This was my 22nd cruise and I can say one of the most beautiful. The only really negative point, in contrast to the fast and efficient boarding, was the disembarkation, left under the sun in the middle of a field waiting for transport.
Our first RCL cruise and it was an overall good experience. Starting with the high points, our embarkation was the easiest we've ever had. My wife is mobility impaired so we normally get somewhat expedited boarding assistance. The check-in was fast and there was zero wait time in the pre-boarding process. Having to wait in the buffet area until 2pm was a bit inconvenient but not so bad. The food was very good at both the main dining room and the buffet. We enjoy quality food and we were not disappointed on this ship. Service was excellent at the main dining room and our cabin steward was also wonderful. The balcony cabin was clean and satisfactory albeit at the far back of the ship. Now for the low points. Our cabin was second from the stern end which created difficulty for my wife transiting to and from the elevators. Guest services was unable to change cabins. The adult pool area was not enforced which resulted in 13-15 year old divas filling the hot tubs. The hot tubs in the open area were nothing but splash pools for infants and toddlers, including a few in training shorts. The water was actually cloudy in the open area hot tubs which was a major "Eewww" factor. Pool Chairs were reserved at 7am and no effort was made to remove towels from chairs that were unoccupied for hours. Bar service in the pool area was nonexistent so many trips to the bar itself were necessary. The entertainment was not very good and we left before the end of each presentation in the theater. The R Bar was fantastic. The drink selection on RCL was very good and contained a wide selection of spirits ranging from middle to top shelf. Overall the food was very good with only a couple of missteps regarding food preparation. Eggs over easy might come hard as a rock and not hot. Medium-Rare might come out Medium-Raw but overall it was very good. Appetizers in the Main Dining Room were very good and varied. Deserts were also very good. Waiters in the main dining room were excellent and very attentive. Tendering to Santorini was abysmally slow and over complicated with multiple queues on the ship. Santorini and Mykonos were ok but once is enough for me. Athens and Split were great ports that I'd love to visit again. The disembarkation was almost a death march and quite the opposite of the embarkation. I believe that the walk from the ship to the shuttle pick up point was about a mile. Thank goodness the crewman pushed my wife in the wheelchair all of the way. Oh, lest I forget, the cigar room does not open until 9PM which I found absurd. In the end, we liked the ship overall but there are some areas that need some attention.
I went on a Mediterranean cruise leaving from Italy with stops in Croatia and Greece. Went with my family and everyone is still talking about how great it was several months later. We're already thinking of going back next year. The cruise was amazing and with all of the stops containing dozens of excursion options gave our family so many options to go out as a group or even do individual excursions. We loved the Dubrovnik stop as Croatia is one of the most beautiful places I've ever visited. We enjoyed some snorkeling and the water was so clear. Then our stop in Santorini is something I continue dreaming about with the amazing views. There were so many things to do on the ship. I personally enjoyed rock-climbing, pickleball, swimming, slides, and the casino. The cruise itself had so many great meal options and I couldn't have asked for a better overall experience.
