General We are a couple in our 60’s who live in Galveston and cruise a lot. We booked this cruise directly through MSC because it was the first sailing out of Galveston and we wanted to be sure to get the best information and best deal that we could. This was our 33rd cruise and we have been on several different cruise lines. Embarkation and Debarkation Embarkation was super easy! We arrived around 10:45 and basically walked right into the terminal. The lines to check in were pretty short and we were able to get through quickly. Since we were in the Aurea group, we were the first to get onto the ship and could actually go straight to our rooms since there had been no passengers on the ship the day before and the rooms were ready. The debarkation process was not as easy. We were with 3 other couples in group 7 and by the time we were supposed to get off (8:30 am), the line was extremely long. They had set up this crazy maze of rows where you had to zig and zag through the different areas on the ship before you could finally see the door to exit. I am sure they can improve on this as they have more sailings but they definitely did not have this planned out well. Once on Board When we got on board, I went immediately to get reservations at two of the special restaurants – The Butcher’s Cut and the Teppanyaki Hibachi place. Making the reservations was easy because we were on the ship so quickly but I am aware that others had to wait a long time to get to the front of the line. Apparently, you cannot make these reservations prior to boarding. Food Overall, we did not think the food was very good compared to other cruise lines. We ate breakfast at the Butcher’s Cut Steak house several times which was very good but we could not get a mimosa there so we tried several other food locations and the buffet and they were fine with the typical selections and access to a bar. We ate lunch several times in one of the main dining rooms and actually thought those were some of our best meals. We ate dinner in the Agean Restaurant with a group of 14 most nights except when we did the Specialty dining. The selections were “okay” but lacked the flair that we are used to on other cruise lines. Our meal at The Butcher’s Cut Steakhouse was good but not the best steak we have had. The meal in the Teppanyaki Hibachi Grill was entertaining but way too much food. You can choose from either the beef or chicken entrée but both of them also came with either salmon or sea bass which was really overkill for the amount of soup, veggies and rice they also give you. We had bought a “2 specialty meal” package prior to sailing and saved a little money there so if you know you are going to eat there, I would highly recommend it. Amenities The drink package we bought was originally called the “Plus” drink package and 1 device for the internet. Apparently the “Plus” package has since been discontinued and they now only offer a “Premium” package but we were not allowed to upgrade after day 2. The selection of wines/champagne were limited but fine in the end. The internet was sketchy the entire cruise and only having 1 device in our package was very limited since we sometimes wanted to be on the laptop and also the phone. Tips were not included and we were billed $112 per person for the week which was reasonable but we saw many people asking for the charge to be removed so they could tip themselves. We always tip extra for good service so this was not a problem for us. For some reason, we ended up with a lot of OBC which we used for the tips and a spa treatment. The room category we were in gave us a 20% discount on spa services but they then added on an 18% “service fee” which they explained to me was “not a tip” and therefore I ended up tipping extra myself. I am not sure who gets the service fee but apparently it wasn’t the person doing the massage. Bar Service There are many bars on the MSC Seascape but we spent most of our time at “Shine” and had excellent service. Our only complaint was that that particular bar wasn’t open until 4:00 pm most days and you would have to go down one level to the Seascape bar which was open much longer hours however had minimal seating. The Shine bar has lots of great seating and accommodated our large group very well as a meeting place. We also had great bar service in the Marketplace Buffet. MSC honors your drink package the minute you board the ship which is great. Even though they serve a limited menu with “Texas” wines, it was nice to be able to take advantage of the package right away. Room We booked a room that they initially called an Aurea Junior Suite when we booked but then they changed just the name of the room to an Aurea Premium Balcony. The room did have an extra large balcony which was nice even though we hardly used it. The location of the room on deck 9 was perfect because we spent most of our time on decks 5, 6, 7 and 8 so we were very close. We ended up with a group of 12 cabins all of whom booked the Aurea level which includes some extra privileges such as early boarding, access to the thermal spa and sauna area and anytime dining along with the drink package and internet. For some reason, the other cabin types require you to eat at the early or late seating. The room was on the small side and the closet placement inconvenient as either the couch or the bed is right up against it making it hard to get in and out. The bathroom was tiny and we disliked the shower as it was not only very small but very difficult to manage the water temperature and the water pressure was very low. The A/C in the room worked very well and we were happy with that. Entertainment The entertainment was excellent and we saw something every night. I did not find the comedian very funny but several in my party did. We enjoyed hearing live music in the Times Square area but it was often very loud and hard to talk. Excursions We are not big fans of excursions and didn’t plan any but we did get off in Cozumel to eat at a restaurant we really like. Other-wise we stayed on the ship and enjoyed the fact that most people did get off the ship. Overall The cruise director was good but I miss having a “wake-up” show on the TV where you can see what is happening that day. I also miss that they don’t record some of the shows so you can see them from your room if you missed them. The ship wants you to use the app on your phone and deters you from getting a paper copy of the day’s events but we opted for the paper when we could as we like that much better. We were sorry there was no session where you could meet some of the crew where they would answer questions from the audience. The ship itself was beautiful and full of so many bars and restaurants. They do not have a library or game room which is unfortunate as we enjoy that kind of space. One very negative point was that we had to change our clocks 3 times in the 7-day sailing. Typically, we are used to 1 time change but 3 was crazy. We have been on ships that stay on “ship time” and we do understand when you have to change to local time for excursions but it was really ridiculous that we had to change times 2 days in a row at one point. No one knew what time it was and we missed breakfast in the dining room because of it. Overall, we had a wonderful time and really enjoy sailing the MSC Seascape on its inaugural voyage out of Galveston. The services were top notch. We love the size and layout of the ship and enjoyed the music and entertainment.
We had an amazing time on the inaugural sailing out of Galveston! It was our first time on MSC. Embarkation was a breeze, and we showed up way before our scheduled time with no issues. The ship is modern, shiny and sleek! The huge theater is one level, with great viewing from nearly all seats. POSITIVES: Entertainment: SIX amazing production shows, first ever variety show I’ve seen on a ship in the La Cabaret Rouge, and Dueling Pianos was a lot of fun! MSC has also hired a country band, which plays in the atrium and other places. The salsa band was also very popular, and they taught many dance classes. We liked the food. I’ve read many complaints about the food not being good. The buffet had a good variety each day…..even roasted duck at lunch one day! Unlike some cruise lines, MSC still has a lobster night! Yum! Our balcony cabin was very nice, except for tiny shower and bathroom. Obese passengers may not even fit in the shower, seriously! It did have washcloths, despite what I’d read in reviews. Our cabin steward was excellent and brought us distilled H20, extension cord, an extra blanket and hangers. All announcements were made in ONLY English. There must be a minimum of 20% of guests of any particular language to have them announce in their language. With mostly Americans onboard, English will most likely be used out of Galveston. Guess what? In the public restrooms, you don’t have to close the toilet lid to flush! The flush button is up high. NEGATIVES: you are issued only ONE beach towel, which you can swap out any time for a clean one. We each brought an extra beach towel. Problem solved. No bars of soap, lotion or conditioner, so bring your own if you can’t live without those. Crew were mostly friendly, but not like on Celebrity where every single crew member says hello when they pass you. There are few shaded areas on pool decks! Very disappointing! The solarium pool area is the only real shaded part. IMPORTANT NOTE: MSC has 3 dinner seatings: 5 pm, 7 pm, and 9 pm. Open seating is only for guests in suites. MANY on this cruise selected 5 pm seating when they booked (as we did), only to be given the 9pm seating. This did not sit well with the majority of Americans who usually don’t like to eat that late. We got to the terminal in time to board at 11 am, and went straight to the table for changing complimentary seating. Those boarding later dealt with the nightmare of trying to change their seating when they eventually saw it on their room key. Many were stuck with a 7 or 9 pm seating.
This was my second time aboard the MSC Seascape, and even though it was a short cruise, it was everything I hoped it would be — polished, welcoming, and full of those signature MSC touches that make it feel special. From the moment I stepped onboard, I was greeted with warmth and recognition from the crew. You can tell they genuinely care about making every guest feel seen and appreciated. The service across the ship — from dining to casino to spa — was consistently excellent, with every interaction feeling personal and genuine. The ship itself remains one of my favorites in the fleet: modern, lively, and beautifully designed, with endless spots to relax or celebrate. A highlight of this trip was watching the LA Dodgers win the World Series onboard — the energy in the sports bar was electric, and the crew made the celebration unforgettable. Once again, the Seascape proved that it’s not just the destinations that make a cruise memorable, but the people who bring it to life. Can’t wait to be back onboard again soon!
