The ship was just 6 months out of dry-dock and looked renewed everywhere. Our Aqua Class veranda cabin also shined with new balcony furniture and carpets. The mattress was very comfortable. Aqua folks were able to enjoy Unlimited free entry to the SEA Thermal Suite. That was a very nice upgrade. The September weather was remarkable and I would suggest sailing after Labor Day greatly. The food was very good in the MDR. We met some very nice folks at dinner. The Hostess seated us well and enjoyed our sillyness every evening as we approached her. The buffet was also well done and we ate lunchs here. Ok so not all was well. Our first night aboard we ate at the BLUE restaurant which was Aqua class only. My dinner was uneatable. Appetizers, salad, main course. My wifes dinner was fine but I did not eat and we left immediately after she finished. The maitre de was doing somersaults to try to impress me but I was not having it. "You and BLUE failed!" I said to him as we left. He came to our cabin the next morning bottle of Champagne in hand and implored us to try again. So we decided to eat breakfast there and it was very good. Ate there every morning since we always had a window table. Entertainment at the shows, the musicians, and staff everywhere were great. Wished the music was played more at the sunset/stern bars. We love live music. The old roving minstels we have enjoyed in the past was not there as frequently as in past sailings. The captain and crew were usually around to talk to evenings. I asked the captain if we could have the lights out on upper outside decks for stargazing one evening. He said No that was a safety issue. Oh well. The excursions were good and the ability to purchase before the cruise at discount helped alot. The Greek islands were OK. But Santorini was gross. It smelled of urine everywhere. Not only cat urine either. Perieus embarcation port by the way a nice surprise. Loved the Greek people. They really know what "hospitality" means. Look it up in the dictionary it will say Greeks excell at this. Malta was another surprise. Loved it. Friendly helpful folks... Would suggest it to all as a must port of call. Croatia also a nice surprise. Read about them as being hostile to tourists but we had just the opposite experience. Nice folks. The landscape is incredible. Beaches not so much. And then there was Italy. We chose to go to the Alps rather then Florence, Naples or Rome. It was Cortina d'Ampezzo just before the Olympics. It was my wifes favorite place. Chairlifts and Gondolas up to the peaks to hike the high country. Absolutely fabulous. And we walked everywhere from our hotel into town. Amazing views. Amazing food. Fun! Again the Italians were very helpful and enjoyed my silly sense of humor. Finally we headed back to Venice our last port. The only day it rained out of 20 days in Europe. It was great. We got drinks at one coffee shop. The best hot chocolate my wife has ever had. I think it wasn't on his menu but he never made excuses and probably melted down some chocolate just for her. It was outside with a roof over head to keep the rain off. WE watched gondola after gondola park here jump off and get coffee, food, bottles of wine and then jump back into the fray. They knew this guy and his confections. Rain stopped we found an alley with another restaurant for dinner and enjoyed the waiters as much as the food we ordered. Venice was short but the day was full of surprises.
This cruise line has some of the best workers that make your experience awesome! From Sarah our cabin attendant to Asep our dining waiter they were awesome! We enjoyed our balcony and the fresh sea air. The beautiful views of the islands and landscapes to the dolphins swimming beside the ship. The ship crew were helpful and made my inexperience much more informed. Udon our pastry girl greeted us each morning with a beautiful smile. Loved the Conservatory area as it was peaceful most of the time. I just wished I could have taken in more of the festivities going on throughout the ship. I definitely recommend booking your excursions at each of the ports because they were much more enjoyable not worrying whether you were going to return to the ship in time. Oh, and don’t forget that wonderful Zumba time with Daniel teaching us. Loved it! Thank you for an unforgettable vacation of a lifetime.
We were genuinely sad when we had to leave the ship! First time with Celebrity a deliberate decision to move to a larger ship (previous cruises were with Seabourn and Explora, both outstanding). We changed for more people, more buzz, more to do in the evenings. Celebrity absolutely delivered ship is big enough for there always to be something to do if you want it day and night but with plenty of quiet spaces if you just wanted a couple of hours with a good book. Highlights service was excellent everywhere particular standouts Danlin, Christian and Kadek at Al Bacio the coffee shop, Iris at Eden bar was fabulous, Putra our cabin steward was excellent. Locations al Bacio, Eden, Martini Bar, Blu, Cosmopolitan, Sunset Bar, Rooftop Garden Grill, were where we hung out on ship. Silent disco, ABBA night, in the theatre Matt McGurk, Stephen Barry and Georgina Jackson were all excellent. Cabin was great, we really liked the infinite veranda thing and used that space much more both open and closed than we ever did our balconies on our previous cruises. I only have one small observation and with the full recognition that Seabourn and Explora are the comparison. The food was not as good on Celebrity, nothing poor, no bad meals - including Fine Cut - the speciality restaurant. Service in the restaurants excellent throughout. It was a great trip, on a great ship and we are about to book for next summer.
My wife and I decided to sail on the Celebrity Ascent primarily to visit Croatia. We have been on about thirty cruises including four on the Mediterranean. This was our third Celebrity Cruise sailing (previous two were on the Edge). The record heat wave in Europe proved to be a challenge but overall we thoroughly enjoyed our cruise. The 90 degree temperatures made the pools very crowded including the Retreat area – our previous sailings on the Edge in Alaska and New Zealand had little interest in pools, but at one time on the Ascent I counted 25 people in the small retreat pool. The loungers were quite crowded with people baking in the Mediterranean sun. I didn’t think the buffet was crowded and the main theater shows always had many open seats, but the special shows in Eden were pretty much full 30 minutes before the performances started. Other than the busy pools, I found the cruise to be pretty flawless. The crew was very friendly and worked hard to make the passenger’s experiences enjoyable. This started with Captain Tasos Kafetzis who was the friendliest and funniest Captain I have seen. We ate at Eden twice, Fine Cut twice, Le Voyage twice, Le Petit Chef once and Raw once in addition to the buffet and Luminae. Service and food was good as expected although one time Fine Cut served me the special aged Rib Eye steak which was overcooked and underflavored – the second visit I ordered the regular Rib Eye steak done to perfection. Our other meals were quite good especially Le Voyage. I consider Celebrity’s buffet the overall best of the cruise lines I have sailed on and the Ascent did not disappoint. The entertainment on board was a bit limited but the production cast was superb – both the male and female singers were excellent. Bridges, Awaken and Residency all highlighted the musical talents of the cast who embraced some of the most challenging songs by popular artists and wowed the audience. The noticeable number of empty seats probably reflects the multicultural and multilingual passengers, certainly not the talents onboard the ship. Other acts I especially enjoyed was singer Salvatore Hasard, Cheaza’s Whitney Hoston show, and Max Anthony’s Elton John show. The biggest reason to book this Ascent voyage is the collection of ports visited. On our Celebrity Edge® Series ships, we may have reinvented the main restaurant experience with four different venues, but we haven’t changed the way you plan your dining. With Celebrity Select Dining you can choose early seating at 6:00 P.M., late seating at 8:30 P.M., or dine whenever you want. You’ll be assigned one of the four main restaurants, while having the option to dine in the other three upon request and availability.

Kids and Teen Programs
The fun starts at Camp At Sea, our onboard entertainment centre and program designed exclusively for kids ages 3 to 12. Open every day from 9:00am - 10:00pm, Camp at Sea offers kids the opportunity to participate in a number of entertaining activities, including treasure hunts, arts and crafts, sports, and theme parties, all under the supervision of our experienced youth staff. For our teen cruisers, the Teen Club is the place to be. At the Teen Club, they can make new friends and participate in events like video game competitions, teen parties, and culinary classes. Activities are overseen by our team of teen counsellors and offered throughout the day, allowing teens to come and go as they please.
