This was our first river cruise. It was a cruise on the Rhine and focused on Christmas markets. The ship was beautifully decorated; putting other ships to shame. The staff was fabulous. A special shout out to the Maitre D' who worked to manage my challenging food allergies. The food was amazing. The wait staff were so attentive. The housekeeping staff were efficient and friendly. We appreciated and made use of the fitness program to stretch our limbs. The Cruise Manager worked tirelessly to create a high quality experience. The touring options we a good combination of time with informational guides and time on our own. We had one guide who did not meet our expectations; the Cruise Manager followed up with him immediately. We did the pre cruise in Amsterdam and post cruise in Lucerne and Zurich; both of which we would recommend. Accommodations were top notch and conveniently located. Importantly, we meet other cruisers from a variety of backgrounds and nationalities who were ready to develop friendships and be supportive.
This was our first River Cruise and it was delightful. We have done 30 ocean cruises over the years but never done a River Cruise so we were a little apprehensive. The crew were helpful, efficient and fun to be around. The AMA VIOLA was lovely, rooms smaller than what we are used to on Ocean Cruises but sufficient for what we needed. Bathrooms were same size as on larger cruise ships so nothing different there. The food was excellent, variety and taste. Tours were very good, although I would have liked less guided tour and more time at the Christmas Markets. Wine and beer included in price were good quality. Embarking and disembarking were smooth and effortless. My daughter is gluten free and had advised the cruise line ahead of time. The menu they gave her every day not only met her needs but was delicious. (if you are gluten free you know delicious is not always an option) I would recommend this cruise and cruise line to everyone and have already done so to many friends.
We enjoyed our cruise very much. Wanted to give special recognition to Alit (Chef De Rang), Marina (Bar Waitress), and Viktoria (housekeeper). And of course, our Cruise Manager, Crystal August. While all the staff were outstanding, we would like to extend our special thanks to the individuals mentioned above. We enjoyed the activities and social hours on board. The food was excellent overall, but the dinner at the chief's table was outstanding! The public areas were clean and comfortable. Our room was a little small for my taste, but I am 6'3" and if I were shorter, the bed would not have felt as cramped. The wellness coach and fitness plan were excellent, but we never really took advantage of them. The pool was heated to a comfortable temperature, but the weather was not really conducive to using the pool. There was a swim-up bar, but I never saw a bartender there.
Boat - quiet. Smooth. Luxurious - perfect. Room - clean , functional , excellent view - excellent home base to reach out from Food - spectacular. Never had better Anywhere else Crew - cleaning staff were incredibly efficient Ana and lobby staff were pleasant , polite , and very knowledgeable Bar / lounge staff were perfect. - knew what we liked and fun to be with Restaurant staff - excellent. - knew their stuff and made each meal a treat. Destinations were beyond expectations - Coulmar , Strasbourgh , Cologne , Heidelberg , Amsterdam etc were shockingly fun. This was my first ever cruise. We chose a river cruise for our honeymoon as we thought the smaller crowds and no ocean voyage would be more pleasant. We were correct This is definitely the way to travel and see your destinations - the tours were excellent and this is something we will recommend to anyone
