Ship Reviews

My experience was absolutely amazing! The service went above and beyond. Everyone I interacted with was so kind and genuine and made it a point to remember me and my preferences. Everyone made a great impact on my stay, but some standouts for me included Victoria, Hristina, Sally, Mada, Andrei, Alex and of course our tour manager Heloise. These team members were all so kind and treated us like family. You could really feel how genuine they were and how much they cared and that meant the world to me. I travelled with my whole family including my 91 year old grandmother and everyone made it a point to make sure she felt included and had fun and I really appreciated that inclusive environment. As someone who works in hospitality I was very impressed with the quality of the rooms and how quickly the rooms were turned over. Thank you so much for curating such a phenomenal vacation!!

This was our 3rd Ama River Cruise and we enjoyed the pre and post cities as well as the cruise itself. Our Cruise manager Martina was beyond accommodating! The one negative our group of eight noticed was the lack of a few added extras that we had on previous cruises. Not as many staff, so the ones that we had seemed to be a bit scattered and not as engaging. Especially some of the staff at the desk…one barely looked up and never showed a smile. No warm or cool towels to welcome you back after excursions, as well as waters or drinks. There was hardly any welcome when we returned. No appetizers at lunch, not the quick service for drinks at meals…again, lack of staff… After staying at magnificent hotels in Switzerland on previous cruise, the hotel in Paris was lackluster, not the Parisian vibe we were hoping for. The Barcelona hotel was greatly located and had a great rooftop bar to gather at. I suppose it’s all about the big picture and the new owners making money but when you’re spending $20 thousand dollars I don’t think that’s too much to ask for. It was disappointing. So much so that this was the first time we didn’t sign up for the next cruise with% off. We will be checking other lines first. That being said Martina was awesome! Our hotel manager was everywhere! She seemed to take over for the lack of staff. Our room steward was great, we had 3 before the final one…again, staffing issues? Ship was lovely, chefs table, fabulous, food delicious, excursions great although some tour guides talked too much on the bus rides and too loudly. (Keep the mic further away from your mouth) Transfers all went perfectly. Overall we had a wonderful trip and hoping these little undoings don’t continue. Ama was perfectly perfect the way the original owners were running it.

This particular river cruise focused on Southern France, highlighted African history and the cultures that influenced France. The food on board was amazing, I absolutely enjoyed the details that went into discussion of our daily excursions from the amazing cruise manager, Crystal. We had an unfortunate set back with damage to one of the locks where we needed to pass through and our first 2 1/2 days were modified to account for the lack of cruising on the first day. However, Crystal, along with the staff on Ama, Christina were able to pivot and get us to most of our tours. Our captain sailed the river throughout the night once we were allowed to leave Avignon via thr canals/ locks. Throughout at all, most everyone was able to enjoy the modified schedule and once we were back on the river sailing, it was a beautiful experience. Paris was awesome too!

This was the Soulful Experience cruise of France. It was specifically created with the Black traveller in mind. Topics , excursions, and entertainment geared to the Black experience with French colonialism and influence in France. An excellent cruise, informative and in some cases eye opening. Crystal August is the best. I don't know how she handles everything without needing medication...lol. The river locks were down for over 24 hours so we were not able to go up river. She and AmaWaterways arranged ground transportation so that no excursions were missed. A true logistical nightmare. She deserves a raise. The crew and especially the officer corps were fantastic. Sat with the Captain at dinner one night and laughed the entire time. This was my first river cruise, have been on at least 15 other cruises, and there will be more with AmaWaterways. Thank you for a wonderful experience. No children on this cruise either, that was a plus.

This was our 1st river cruise. We had been looking at them through wineries we like but the dates hadn't worked out. We didn't know that this one would be hosted by a winery near until a few days before the cruise. A disappointing aspect related to that is that we only went to one winery per region - three overall - and so it was not a good wine tasting experience. We only really liked one - the Beaujolais winery. I am a lover of Rhone wines but the few wineries we got to try were uninteresting. We bought a half case of the Beaujolais, a few bottles of the Hermitage and none of the Chateunuef de Pape. They did a few wine activities on the ship. The sommelier was great because he was knowledgeable and able to speak to the wines. The winery tasting could have been better. The owners didn't seem to have done something like this before and so didn't talk about wine-making as much as their history. Also they poured French varieties one day and their wines another and said "remember these when you taste those" when they should have been comparing the same kinds. If you have never done a tour or cruise before, the most important thing for 1st time cruisers to understand is that it's very social. We have only vacationed with family and so this was the biggest change in experience. We hung out with a number of couples and exchanged contact info in the end but it can be overwhelming if you aren't terribly social The AmaKristina is a very nice ship (looked at the others we docked with) and the crew, and especially cruise director (Simon), were great. We had a balcony cabin and the layout and furnishing were nice. Some things I'd like different would be that there needs to be electric sockets - or at least USBC connections, on both sides of the bed to charge devices and be able to read and listen to nighttime noises, stories, etc. We were on the 2nd deck and when people on the 3rd, right above us flushed, the noise was scary. Something else that was scary was that the shower temp, when set to the "medium" temp was scalding. We didn't hang out for any of the entertainment - usually went up to top deck and hung out with people we had met. Just wasn't our cup of tea. The food was OK but, other then the Rotisserie celebration and Chef's table was not exceptional. We had a Spanish tapas meal and nice French meal at restaurants in Lyon that made me want to eat out more. Wouldn't mind if there was a service to suggest nice places to eat - just wouldn't want them to be too touristy...don't know how to make that work. While the winery tours were not what we hoped the rest of the activities and tours were nice. It's very touristy, not intimate, because your 20ish people following a tour guide with a lollipop sign and you have this earpiece thing so you can hear them - which fit my ear terribly but was cool to hear them, even if they were down the street or in another room. All-in-all pleasant but I don't think I would do it for wine tasting. Maybe do other cruises to get to know new areas and the Christmas one with our family.
